With movies like ‘Hyderabad Blues’, ‘Rockford’, ‘Teen Deewarein’, and the last hit Iqbal , Nagesh Kukunoor has proved that despite being a part of the mainstream cinema, he is not amongst them.
Most of his films are about real people, and based on real life stories. While Nagesh was in Kolkata to promote his ready for released film Dor he said, ”I try to connect with the common masses so that they can relate to my movies.”
Talking to newspersons in Kolkata, he said the movie ‘Dor’ is a real life story of two women from Kerala who are immigrant workers from Saudi Arabia.
He said the movie is all about love, loss, friendship, hope and redemption, with two women from two different world, one who has nothing to lose and the other who has everything to fight for.
‘Dor’, he said was shoot in the pristine locales of Rajasthan in just 37 days. The film casts the Iqbal boy Shreyas Talpade and the glamorous Ayesha Takia , who has stepped into serious roles with ‘Dor.’ The film also features Gul Panag and Girish Karnad .
”It is my most challenging movie as it is a real life story. So putting soaring music to give it a larger than life film image was pretty difficult”.
”But Salim-Suleiman had given the very right kind of music suiting best to the sequence.” he added.
The movie has some intense music and numbers by singers like Karsan Saquria, Sunidhi Chauhan , and a Pakistani singer Shafquat Amanat Ali Khan.
Nagesh said he always wanted to cast those actors who can relate to the audience and hence prefers actors from the non-parallel movies.
Ayesha, who plays the lead role said her image never allowed her to do serious role but with this she could be able to prove that she is in the industry to act and not just to be a glam doll.
As always, a media friendly Ayesha said, she has bagged quite a number of films from some of the renowned directors like Nikhil Adwani , and some of her forthcoming project are Salaam-e-Ishq , ‘Fool n final’ and Kya Love Story Hai .
While the film is up for its release on September 22, Nagesh has announced his next film Aashayein with John Abraham.
